All UK Boxing fights suspended until end of month due to Covid

The British Boxing Board of Control confirmed the decision

The British Boxing Board of Control have confirmed that all UK boxing will be suspended until the end of January due to rising Covid cases.

The decision was made following advice from their medial panel, with the BBBoC warning all promoters about scheduling fights, with the fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Williams now expected to be moved once again with the two arranged to meet on 29 January.

It means that the decision could be made to relocate to a different venue outside the UK, but is more likely that the fight will need to be rearranged once again.

In an official statement from the BBBoC, as per DAZN, they confirmed that they hope to resume the Boxing programme again in February.

It said: “Following advice from the British Boxing Board of Control Medical Panel, boxing tournaments under the jurisdiction of the BBBofC will be suspended for the month of January.

“A further review by the Medical Panel and Stewards will take place prior to the planned recommencement of boxing in February.”

Should Boxing not start up again back after January, it could cast doubt over some major upcoming fights including Amir Khan’s anticipated clash against Kell Brook on 19 February.

It may also scupper any hopes of Anthony Joshua and Tysonn Fury hosting their respective fights in the UK. Reports had suggested that the ‘Gypsy King’ had been eyeing up a fight in his homeland, whilst Joshua was keen for his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk to take place in the UK too.
