Walker’s contract expires at the end of next season

AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Kyle Walker from Manchester City in the summer.

Walker has fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola in recent weeks, losing his place to John Stones who has been in excellent form of late and has only featured 19 times in the Premier League this season in a campaign hampered by injuries.

Last month, Guardiola claimed the reason behind his omission was that the 32-year-old was unable to follow the same tactical instructions as Stones in his current role, meaning his only route into the side is by playing centre-back.

“To play inside you have to make some movements, Kyle has other characteristics,” he said.

“With this shape of three at the back and two in the middle, he cannot do it. It’s a question of skills. In that position, he’ll need time and we don’t have time.”

The Sun are reporting that Milan will plan to try and tempt the England international to make the move to Italy in the summer, with the full-back’s contract set to expire at the end of next season.

Milan could end up facing City in the Champions League final in June if both sides are able to get past their semi-final opponents, Inter Milan and Real Madrid respectively.

Last season’s Serie A champions face the possibility of failing to qualify for the Champions League next season after Juventus’ 15-point deduction was reversed, moving the Bianconeri up to third and pushing Milan down to fifth.

They are currently level on points with fourth-placed Roma and still have to face Lazio and Juventus before the end of the season.
