80 top European clubs make refugee pledge

Tom Victor

Every single team in the Champions League and Europa League group stages will club together to generate an extra €2-3m in refugee aid.

The 80 teams, including seven from the English and Scottish top divisions, will each donate €1 per ticket for their opening home game in UEFA competition this season.

It follows individual pledges from a number of European clubs, with Bayern Munich, Schalke and Celtic among the first to lend their voices to the refugee cause.

And English non-league club Dulwich Hamlet brought in a phenomenal number of donations before their home match against Billericay Town.

It’s been wonderful to see so much of the footballing world come together for such a worthy cause.
