Chris Eubank Jr calls Billy Joe Saunders a “rat” after Awdijan victory

“You’ve got that rat Saunders running around, he wants to fight me for five mil”

Chris Eubank Jr had a strong choice of words for Billy Joe Saunders, calling him a “rat” during his post-fight interview after his win against Wanik Awdijan.

Fighting in Newcastle, Eubank Jr was able to win in convincing fashion against the Armenian after a succession of heavy hits – in which Eubank claimed he had broken at least one of his opponent’s ribs – before the fight was stopped in the fifth round.

The fight had come at short notice, after the 32-year-old’s previous two opponents had dropped out from facing him and when asked about future fights, the middleweight fighter insisted he isn’t short of options and used the chance to aim a sly dig at Billy Joe.

Speaking on DAZN after his fight he said: “A guy that keeps popping up is Liam Williams, everyone seems to want that fight for me so that’s an option.

“You’ve got that rat Saunders running around, he wants to fight me for five mil [£5million].

“The options are endless. All I know, from December, big names, it’s gonna be a hell of a 12 months.”

Following on from the Eubank Jr’s victory, Sky Sports Boxing pundit Carl Froch believes that the experienced fighter needs to now test himself against the best to really prove himself and likes the idea of him fighting Billy Joe, but questioned whether Saunders actually wants to.

He said: “We need to see him in there with a big name, or a bigger name.

“Maybe the Billy Joe Saunders rematch. I quite like that fight.

“When people start pricing themselves out of the fight, that’s when you realise that maybe they don’t want the fight.

“We need to see Chris Eubank Jr in with a big name and we need to see a performance, because the time is nigh, it really is.”
