Theresa May delays meaningful Brexit vote until March 12

That would be just 17 days before the UK is due to leave the European Union

Theresa May has said that she will not allow MPs to vote on her Brexit deal this week, as originally promised, but will instead postpone until March 12. Her first Brexit plan was defeated by a record 230 votes in January and she has now confirmed that MPs will not get a full, second 'meaningful vote' on a revised Brexit deal this Wednesday. The prime minister confirmed the news today, stating she would not hold the crucial vote this week as she flew to Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, where she will discuss Brexit during an EU summit with Arab leaders. “My team will be back in Brussels again this coming week,” she said. “As a result, we won't bring a meaningful vote to Parliament this week, but we will ensure that that happens by March 12.” She will update the Commons on Tuesday before another showdown on Wednesday, when MPs will try and take a no-deal Brexit off the table.
