Labour secure highest polling lead since January 2025 as Reform collapse

It's been a groundbreaking week in the polls for Andy Burnham.

After months and months of Reform topping the polls, Andy Burnham has overseen a surge in popularity for Labour that has seen them overtake or draw level with Reform in a number of polls.

Now, right at the end of the week, they’ve registered their biggest lead at the top of the polls in over a year and a half.

Polling carried out by BMG Research for the i Paper had Labour on 28%, putting them five points clear of Reform in second, who see a huge four point drop in support.

This is the biggest lead Labour have had with any pollster since January 2025.

Most significantly though, it could be enough of a polling lead to put them on the brink of a majority at the next general election.

According to polling data account Election Maps UK, if this poll were replicated at a general election, it would put Labour just 18 seats short of a majority.

Even more dramatically, it would see Reform not even hit triple figures in terms of seats, leaving them on 94 and nowhere near being able to form a government.

The Tories would also be left on double digits on 96.

This would mean Labour would almost certainly be able to form a government, likely with the help of the Lib Dems.

There’s potentially a long way to go until the next general election and Andy Burnham has previously ruled out calling an early one.

But more polls like this might just give him some food for thought…
