A girl of 11 and a woman of 30 were injured after being shot by a pellet gun in south London on Sunday afternoon.

The girl suffered leg injuries while the woman was shot in the back, it is being reported. The pair know each other but are not related, the police have said.

Police were called to Figges Marsh, Mitcham at around 17:40.

They were both taken to hospital, but neither of them is believed to be seriously hurt.

Two male teenagers are also understood to have sustained minor injuries during the incident too. They also went to hospital with non-serious injuries.

No arrests have been made thus far, as police attempt to track down a group of men seen in the area prior to the shooting.

In response to the incident, the Met Police activated a Section 60 order in the borough of Merton, which allowed them to detain anyone for searches until 06:55 on Monday.
