The manager and his wife experienced the terrifying ordeal while back in their native Chile
West Ham’s new manager Manuel Pellegrini and his wife were mugged at gunpoint over the weekend while walking along the street of the Chilean capital of Santiago.
The Chile native, who took over at the London Stadium last month replacing David Moyes, was reportedly walking to a restaurant with friends in an upmarket area of the city when they were approach by armed men.
The thieves are believed to have robbed a handbag belonging to Pellegrini’s wife, Carola Pucci, before firing at police as they escaped.
According to a report in the Daily Mirror, the robbers threw spikes on the ground to prevent police from following them after the incident.
Despite the violence involved, no one was injured during the robbery, and police reportedly found the car belonging to the criminals, as well as the stolen handbag, shortly after.
In a tweet sent shortly the ordeal, Pellegrini thanked the police for their efforts, and said that he hopes more funds will be granted to help them solve the problem of rising crime.
