He’s now Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer, but when Wayne Rooney scored his 250th goal for the club, he joined an exclusive group of footballers.
After beating Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals for Manchester United with a late equaliser against Stoke on Saturday, Rooney cemented his already legendary status for the Red Devils.
But that 250th goal didn’t just make him Manchester United’s most successful goalscorer, it put him up alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi with a specific but nevertheless impressive record.

As GiveMeSport picked up on, the three footballers – Ronaldo, Messi and now Rooney – are the only current footballers that hold the record for both their club and country’s all-time top goalscorers.
Quite a feather in the cap, wouldn’t you say? Rooney still has a way to go to touch Messi or Ronaldo’s club goalscoring records, and his current form suggests that’s not likely to happen.
But to share a space with two of the greatest players to ever grace the game? You can’t argue with that.
