This man grabbed a $1.6m bucket of gold and just legged it

He is still at large.

Step 1) Take the gold. Step 2) Cheese it!

Films like Ocean’s Eleven, Heat and The Usual Suspects would make you believe that staging a heist or robbery is an extremely difficult thing to execute.

Research, surveillance and assembling the right crew are usually the prerequisite steps involved in any daring raid, but that’s not always the case.

Indeed, when it came to this man in Manhattan, sometimes it’s just about going back to basics.

While we’re expecting the plot of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to be a bit more intricate than this, the following video is the very definition of the term ‘take the money and run’.

Take a look as this man makes off with an 86-pound bucket of gold that’s worth $1.6 million (more than £1.25m), then just walks away, albeit at a slightly quicker pace than usual. That’s as complex as it gets.

Are you ready for the punchline in this momentous crime story? The NYPD are still searching for him, which explains why they released this surveillance video of the incident today.
