For a brief period on Monday, he overtook Donald Trump as public enemy number one on Twitter.

Former professional footballer Vinnie Jones was at the centre of a Twitter controversy that had animal rights activists up in arms.

A photo of hundreds of dead foxes was tweeted from his official account along with the caption, “A real night lamping #foxes anyone beat this?”

After receiving a serious amount of backlash, Jones deleted the tweet and offered an explanation. He claimed that he did not kill the foxes, that he did not take the photo or post it online. According to Jones, his account was hacked.

Jones apologised for any distress the photo caused his followers before reiterating that the photo being posted was the result of his account being hacked.

He added that he did not condone the act in any way.

The photo has been removed from his account, but you can see a screenshot of the tweet below.

Be warned though, it contains very graphic content that some people may find distressing.
