Multiple people injured after ‘man opens fire on tram’ in Dutch city of Utrecht

Several people have been injured after a man reportedly opened fire on a tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht at 10.45 on Monday morning.

“A man started shooting wildly,” one eyewitness told Dutch media outlet NU.

Emergency services are said to be at the scene, and a square has been cordoned off by authorities. The injured have been removed from the tram and are being treated in emergency hospitals.

Police in the Dutch city have confirmed that a shooting has taken place and that a manhunt is under way to find the perpetrator of the crime. Police are reportedly looking for a red car in connection with the incident.

It is understood that police are taking into account a possible terrorist motive for the attack.

They tweeted: “Shooting incident report 24 Oktoberplein in Utrecht was at 10.45 a.m. This is a shooting incident in a tram. Several trauma heli have been deployed to provide assistance.”

An anti-terrorism unit has been dispatched to the scene, and helicopters are flying over the location.
