Update issued on Florida man who strapped down entire house to protect from Hurricane Milton

His daughter has issued an update

Officials have warned more flooding is likely in the coming days, but for now residents are taking stock of the damage faced.

Residents were polarised on their response to the threat with some taking a relaxed approach, while others protected themselves at all costs.

On one end of the spectrum was Joseph Malinowski who has achieved internet stardom after refusing to leave his small boat before the storm hit.

Dubbed ‘Lieutenant Dan’ after the Forrest Gump character played by Gary Sinise, Malinowski refused to listen to advice from police and authorities to leave his boat and evacuate the area.

He managed to survive overnight, and emerged from below deck after the storm, telling a reporter: "I'm fine."

However, on the other end of the scale is one man from Tampa, Florida, who decided to strap his entire house to the ground to stop it flying away.

He went viral after Spectrum Bay News 9 shared a post from X of the strapped down house and preparations that he had taken ahead of the hurricane.

To keep his house in place, Mohammed used six massive straps to keep his home put in the extreme rain, wind and floods.

The straps went over the top of the single story house and attached firmly to the ground.

The post went on to be viewed more than 1.8 million times leaving the internet amazed.

The man's daughter issued an update on the condition of her father's home post-hurricane, and people are pleased to see that it's still standing.

CNN reporter Brian Abel shared a message from his daughter: "We’re doing good just went outside our home just now to clean up and see if any damage (has) been done and nothing not even a shingle lifted but other than that just tiny damages nothing crazy."

She also shared a video on TikTok giving viewers a look at any damage caused to the house, and thankfully it isn't very much.

"Everything is still intact, so we're good," she told the camera, thanking people for their support.

However, not everyone in their vicinity was so lucky, as she pointed out that many of their neighbours had lost power and had trees fallen onto homes.

"Not a single tile has lifted from the roof," she said, adding that they aren't going to remove the straps until hurricane season ends.
