“If this is woke then I never want to be asleep.”
A Manchester pub has said it is ‘dead proud’ after it was given a one-star review on Google.
Port Street Beer House, a modern craft beer and real ale bar on the outskirts of the Northern Quarter shared the review on their Instagram earlier this week.
The reviewer left a simple two-word review to explain the low rating simply saying: “Woke pub.”
The Port St Beer House owned by the same team behind Common and Nell’s has said it is ‘dead proud’ to be considered ‘woke’.
They wrote: “Dead proud to have received this review from what I can only expect is a lovely well rounded individual. Name changed for humour purposes only.
“Anyone know where we should tell them to go next time they come in?”
After they shared the negative review they have been bombarded with support from customers who are leaving the establishment with five-star reviews in an attempt to get the pub’s average rating back up to where it belongs.
One reviewer commented: “If this is woke then I never want to be asleep.”
While another commented: “Woke up this morning in a terrible mood. Just been to Port St Beer House in the pouring rain and it’s made my day. Recommended if you ever woke up in need of a spiritual awokenening rather than taking to Google to write woke bogus reviews.”
On Instagram customers and fellow businesses commented on the review with Carnival Brewing Co wrote: “Woke pub?! We like being woke too. Be proud of your wokeness.”
Jolly Boys Brewery said: “Love a good review when it’s meant to be a bad one…”
While another commented: “Of course it is. It’s the only reason I come in.”
A third said: “I’ll never understand people who use woke as an insult.” While another asked: “How can a pub be woke?”
