The word ‘hero’ is thrown about all too often these days, but Barry Scott was a hero.
Who was Barry Scott? Why does he raise his voice so much? What does he even have to do with cleaning products? All valid questions, but now we may never find the answer.
That’s because the TV great, creator of such memorable one liners as “Bang, and the dirt is gone” and “Hi, I’m Barry Scott” and “What do you think?” has been axed by Cillit Bang.
Scott (if that even is his real name (it’s not, it’s Neil Burgess)) has been a mainstay of adverts for a range of Cillit Bang products. But he was dropped for the last advertising campaign in January and it has been widely reported that he is not coming back.
‘Bang! And Barry Scott is gone’. What, too soon?
The daytime TV hero has been replaced with a younger model in a new advert which challenges the notion of whether it’s possible to be too squeaky-clean.

The loss of Scott has been felt deeply among the UK’s booming community of Cillit Bang enthusiasts.

It’s time to console ourselves with a reminder of Scott’s finest moment. He’ll be missed, that’s for sure.
Barry Scott is no longer Mr Cillit Bang… He dropped some big techno tunes in the early 00s haha #BringBackBarry pic.twitter.com/2UuI1HpmIk
