At least two people have died and nine have been left injured following a Memorial Day mass shooting in the US.
The shooting occurred around 10.30pm as a large group of mostly young people gathered together at a park in Philadelphia, that is according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Kevin Bethel, Philadelphia Police Commissioner, revealed that a man and woman were killed, and three teenagers aged 15 - 17 were among the nine injured.
He also said 'individuals' opened 'fire into a crowd'.
Bethel also said that all nine survivors are in stable condition.
The identities of the victims have not yet been revealed.
"This is significant.
"This is Memorial Day, where we honor those who gave their lives in war," continued Bethel.
Investigators are questioning whether several weapons were used due to multiple rounds being fired.
This morning, the police chief said: “We have our team up there at the crime scene going through, looking at the shell casings, we’ll be able to determine if it was one weapon or multiple weapons,”
“But it’s pretty rapid fire, so we’ll be pretty confident that there probably was a switch on this gun.”
Earlier in the day, the park was filled with families and community members celebrating Memorial Day.
As reported by ABC 6 News, at least 200 youngsters were at the scene, with a witness telling FOX 29 that up to 1,000 people were at the 'cookout' when the gunfire erupted.
Police are expected to provide an update later today.
