Trump says Putin has 'gone absolutely crazy' after a massive aerial attack on Ukraine.
The attack was the largest aerial attack of the war so far.
At least 12 people were killed and dozens were left injured as a result.
The US President condemned the huge strike, labelling it "needless killing [of] a lot of people".
In an unusual stance against the Russia leader, President Trump said: "What the hell happened to him? He's killing a lot of people."
On Truth Socials, the 78-year-old wrote: "I've always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him.
"He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I'm not just talking about soldiers.
"Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever."
A spokesperson for the Kremlin called the strikes a "very important moment which is connected to an emotional overload of everyone involved".
They added, Putin was taking decisions "necessary for the security" of the country.
According to Kyiv's air force, Russia launched 355 drones and nine cruise missiles against Ukraine between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said "only a sense of total impunity" could allow "such strikes and continue increasing their scale".
He had previously called on the US President to condemn the attack.
On Telegram, he wrote: "The silence of America, the silence of others in the world only encourages Putin.
"Every such terrorist Russian strike is reason enough for new sanctions against Russia," he continued.
The first direct talks between Ukraine and Russian since 2022 were held in Istanbul last week.
Little to no progress was made in bringing fighting to a halt, aside from a major prisoner of war swap.
