Teacher stabbed by student at school in France

A student has been arrested

A high school student has allegedly stabbed a Spanish teacher to death at a school in France.

The attack took place at Saint-Thomas-d’Aquin, a private school in the French town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.

Local media say the incident took place in a Spanish class on Wednesday morning at around 10am.

The attacker, a 16-year-old pupil, reportedly entered the classroom and pulled the knife from his bag before attacking his teacher in the lesson.

The teacher was in her fifties and died of a cardiac arrest as a result of her injuries when emergency services arrived on the scene, according to Sud Ouest.

She was declared dead shortly after 11am.

The student apparently suffers from “psychiatric disorders” and claimed to be “possessed”.

Authorities have confirmed that police are on the scene with the local prosecutor, and the student has been arrested.

The school assured French media that no pupils were in danger. They had been confined to their classrooms until the incident was neutralised.

The French education minister is on his way to Saint-Jean-de-Luz.

On Twitter, he said his thoughts were with the victim’s family, colleagues and pupils, and that he was on his way to the school “straight away.”
