Sex Offender bled to death after genitals cut off

Police are not looking for anyone in connection with the incident

An inquest has been opened after a convicted sex offender bled to death on an abandoned industrial estate in North Wales with his genitals cut off.

Reginald Alan Roach was found “unresponsive” by a dog walker on the Bryn Cegin industrial estate in Bangor on Sunday, November 6.

Kate Sutherland, acting senior coroner for north west Wales, opened the hearing today in Caernarfon.

The inquest heard on Friday (November 11) that the 63-year-old died after sustaining “wounds” to his private parts, North Wales Live reports.

Dr Brian Rodgers carried out a post mortem examination on the deceased, who lived at the Ty Newydd, bail hostel on Llandygai Road, Bangor.

The coroner gave the provisional cause of death as “shock and haemorrhage due to incised wounds removing genitalia”.

In August, Roach admitted exposing himself at a Travelodge Hotel after asking staff to place a bet on for him while he was naked from the waist down.

He was being housed at the hotel by the council when he went into a public area of the hotel naked from the waist down.

He was given 16 weeks suspended jail term and ordered to pay £150 compensation to the worker disgusted by his behaviour.

He also had to register as a sex offender.

In 2020 he admitted destroying a poppy memorial the day after Remembrance Sunday in 2019.

About a week before his death, Roach had been due to appear in court at Llandudno Magistrates Court where he faced a charge of failing to comply with notification requirements in relation to the sex offenders register at Caernarfon Police Station on September 13, 2022.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

They told the Mirror: “Following our statement earlier this week regarding the death of a man who was discovered collapsed at Parc Bryn Cegin, Llandegai, the Coroner today opened an inquest.

“Following a Home Office Post Mortem, and to end unhelpful speculation, we can confirm that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death of Reginald Alan Roach, but would renew our appeal for anyone who saw an elderly man, approximately 5’8” tall and wearing blue jeans with a grey hooded top in the area between 10am on Saturday, November 5th and 9am on Sunday, November 6th to please contact us on 101 quoting reference B168289.

“We will not be making further comment as the matter remains with the Local Coroner.”
