A Romanian border village has been evacuated after a Russian attack left a ship carrying liquified natural gas damaged.
Reports say that a Russian drone attacked the vessel near southern Ukraine, leading to a small border village of Tulcea being evacutated and later the localities of Ceatalchioi and Plauru.
Alleged footage of the attack on social media has been circulating, showing flames rising from a tanker.
Local media reported the attack had lead to evacuations in the area.
On social media, the department said it held an emergency meeting and decided to carry out the evacuation to "eliminate potential risks and to protect the population".
The department added: "On-site, forces from the Ministry of Internal Affairs structures, along with local and county authorities, continue to monitor the situation and intervene to prevent or manage any emergency developments."
In response to the attack, former Tory minister of state for security, Tom Tugendhat, said that the attack was "Russia attacking NATO."
On X he wrote: "Russia is attacking NATO. Putin is expanding his Ukrainian war to dissuade us from defending European freedom.
"Some have begun serious preparations to defend ourselves, others, including Britain, are behaving as if this is our choice and our timeline. The enemy gets a vote."
The attack comes in the wake of other suspected incursions into Nato territory.
Many have drawn links between the recent Polish railway 'sabotage' as well as drones shutting down airports across the continent with Russia, although this has not been officially confirmed.
