Ferdinand admitted to the charge

Rio Ferdinand has been banned from driving for six months for speeding.

The former England and Manchester United captain admitted to the charge and was ordered to pay £822 in fines and costs.

Ferdinand, 41, was caught driving his Mercedes at over 70mph on the A27 at Hangleton in Hove, East Sussex.

Crawley Magistrates’ Court was told the 41-year-old, who lives in Orpington, south-east London, reached a speed of 85mph on the dual carriageway last July.

It is not the first time Ferdinand has been caught speeding – in 2012 he was also caught driving above the speed limit three times in five weeks in the same location in Manchester.
