Ricky Gervais has sent love to his former The Office co-star Lucy Davis after she revealed she has been diagnosed with incurable cancer.
Davis, who played receptionist Dawn Tinsley in the original UK version of the sitcom, shared on Instagram that she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer around 18 months ago. She revealed that the disease has since spread to her bones and is incurable, with chemotherapy no longer an option.
Despite the devastating news, Davis said she wants to make the most of whatever time she has left and live her life in the most “fun” way possible.
She also used her post to urge people not to ignore changes to their bodies, explaining that the first sign she noticed was a tiny hard spot rather than an obvious lump.
The actress wrote: “The initial lump that I felt, wasn't a 'lump' as such; rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn't bother getting it checked. So I guess I'm saying don't ignore anything - get everything checked out.”
Her post was quickly met with messages of support from friends and fellow actors, including Gervais, who worked alongside Davis on The Office. The comedian simply left a heart emoji beneath her post, with Davis replying: “xxxx”.
Jenna Fischer, who played the US version of Davis’ character in the American spin-off, also sent her love, writing: “Beautiful post. Love you lots. And yes to working with cancer! Let's spread that message far and wide! How working is such a comfort!”
Davis’ Chilling Adventures of Sabrina co-star Kiernan Shipka wrote: “I love you so much Lucy".
Actress Sarah Paulson also shared her support, writing: “Sending you love love love. You are and always have been full of magic.”
