Richard Keys accuses Jack Grealish of 'alcohol abuse'

‘Celebrate by all means – responsibly’

Richard Keys has told Jack Grealish there is “nothing funny about alcohol abuse” following the Man City player’s admission that he was hungover at England training last week.

After winning the Champions League earlier this month to secure the treble, Grealish and his Man City teammates went on a three-day party, culminating in an open-top bus parade through Manchester.

Grealish in particular grabbed most of the attention on social media for his antics, and incredible stamina throughout the celebrations.

And the 27-year-old admitted that when he turned up for England duty just a couple of days after the celebrations finally came to an end, he was hungover at training, but not drunk.

Whilst most have watched on and seen a player celebrating the end of an incredible season for both him and his team, it seems like Keys was not impressed with his antics.

In a tweet, Keys said: “Hilarious. What a lad. The trouble is Jack that there’s nothing funny about alcohol abuse. Celebrate by all means – responsibly. It didn’t work out too well for Gazza did it? Our last ‘lad’.”

The BeIN Sports presenter was widely mocked for his comments, with many saying there was nothing wrong with Grealish’s celebrations.

Responding to Keys’ tweet, one person wrote: “He drank for 3 days after probably 8 months of virtually nothing. He’s not shotting After Shock while taking a corner kick is he.”

Another said: “Young lad having a few drinks after celebrating winning the treble, I’d be more worried if he wasn’t getting hammered…”

And a third pointed out what would be obvious to most but clearly not Keys, by saying: “Going out for three days isn’t alcohol abuse.”

Someone else wrote: “What bloke in England hasn’t turned up to College/Uni/Work hungover at some point, it’s not alcohol abuse it’s just been a normal lad for f**k sake.”
