‘Real reason’ Tom Hardy’s MobLand exit revealed as producers reportedly eye replacement

New claims have emerged.

Last week, Puck News reported that the Mad Max star would not be returning to his role.

The publication claimed he was fired after a clash with producers, during which showrunner Jez Butterworth allegedly gave Paramount+ an ultimatum: either dismiss him or let Hardy go.

A recent report from The Hollywood Reporter expanded on the claims, citing an insider who described Hardy’s alleged on-set behaviour as “career suicide.”

The report claims the incidents took place during production of season two, which has yet to be released, and alleges that Hardy would spend long periods in his trailer and refuse to come to set, reportedly leaving his A-list co-stars waiting.

However, Variety then threw a spanner in the works when they claimed their own sources told them Hardy hadn't been fired at all, and that while there had been some tension on set, things were allegedly being worked out.

The publication went on to say that there was no official departure and that a deal could still be made to get everyone together for the third season.

However, now Page Six has alleged that Hardy has finally decided not to return for season three of MobLand, with the producers already having to scramble to find potential replacements in the form of The Penguin star Colin Farrell and Luther legend Idris Elba.

Additionally, they allege Hardy spent much of his time in his trailer, delaying filming and reportedly driving up costs for producers 101 Studios.

Page Six's source went on to say that there was no 'feud', but tensions were 'all very passive-aggressive and British', and that Hardy indicated he wouldn't come back for a third season but would do promotional work for season two.

As it stands, Hardy’s status in MobLand is still unclear, with certainty only likely to come from official confirmation rather than unnamed sources.

If Hardy doesn’t return next season, it would clearly have major implications for the on-screen drama, but until anything is confirmed, all reports should be taken with a heavy pinch of salt.
