Pret a Manger offers coffee subscription services in bid to boost sales

Technically, you could save around £230 by subscribing to this service, but if you're drinking that much coffee already, you have a problem

Who the fuck drinks five coffees in a day?

Pret A Manger are launching a subscription service, allowing customers to purchase up to five drinks in a day for as little as £20 a month.

The ‘YourPret Barista’ launch comes following a severe downturn in sales induced by the significant decrease in people commuting to work, and stopping at Pret for their breakfast and/or lunch.

“There’s no doubt that workers will come into the office less often than beforehand,” said Pano Christou, the chief executive at Pret.

“Pret needs to adapt itself to the changes of customer patterns and that’s where we’ve been very focused.”

It should be noted, the offer includes coffees made by baristas as well as teas, hot chocolate, smoothies and frappes. By subscribing to the service, customers could clim 150 drinks a month.

The coffee shop chain cut almost 2,900 jobs last week as it faces the grim consequences of a bare high street, and decided to launch this new venture as a way of bringing people back to their stores.

The service launches next Tuesday and will be free to subscribers the first month.

Whether this will bring people flooding back to their closest Pret remains to be seen, but what is certain is that they are offering incredible value for money.

Let’s say the average price of a drink in Pret is £2.50, for argument’s sake. If you were to make full use of the offer and buy five drinks in a day, they would total a value of £12.50. Let’s say you do that 20 times in a month, that totals £250. Which means technically you could save £230 on drinks over the course of a month, if you were Pret’s most loyal customer to begin with. And to be honest, if you were doing that already, I’d be quite concerned.
