Police responding to reports of ‘gunshots’ at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris

French police say they have shot a man outside the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris after he attacked an officer with a hammer.

Police have responded to an alert at the famous cathedral, clearing the streets around the area. French officials have urged people to stay away.

Authorities have confirmed that a security operation is underway. French media have reported that the attacker has been wounded in the chest.

There were reports of panic at the sound of “gunshots”. Crowds inside Notre Dame were shut inside for their safety. People inside the cathedral have said that everyone inside is safe.
