Pierce Brosnan says he’s ‘interested’ in returning to James Bond role

A return for GoldenEye?

Pierce Brosnan has said that he would be “interested” in reprising his role as 007.

Brosnan’s interest in the role comes after last month’s astounding announcement that the Broccoli family would be handing over creative control of the franchise to Amazon.

Speaking to GQ, the 71-year-old said: “Of course, how could I not be interested?

“But it’s a delicate situation now. I think it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie, really. I think so.

“I think that it’s best left to another man, really. Fresh blood.”

The Hollywood star portrayed Bond in four movies from 1995 to 2002 – GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day.

007 has not been on our screens since 2021’s No Time To Die, which saw the super spy killed at the end before an onscreen credit said that he would “return.”

Daniel Craig’s successor has still not been announced and the change in creative control could throw another spanner in the works.

While under the control of the Broccoli family, it was believed that the next Bond should be a British male in his 30s.

However, with the franchise now under the control of Amazon MGM Studios, it’s anybody’s guess which direction they will take the iconic character.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has long been a frontrunner, with speculation that he had been offered the role this time last year.

However, insiders denied this speculation.

Following the change of guard, ‘Babygirl’ star Harris Dickinson has been linked.

Joe Alwyn, who recently featured in the Oscar-nominated ‘The Brutalist,’ has said that he “would throw his hat into the ring.”

Challengers star Josh O’Connor and Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey have also been linked with the role.

Damson Idris and Henry Cavill have also been long-term favourites for the prestigious role.
