A domestic flight in America was forced to make an emergency landing on Tuesday morning after one of its engines was severely damaged

The Southwest Airlines flight from LaGuardia to Dallas Love Field made an emergency landing at Philadelphia.

Pictures posted to Twitter show bent metal and what looked to be part of the front of the engine missing entirely.

The plane had 143 passengers and five crew aboard.

At least a dozen firefighters and several emergency vehicles flooded the scene.

Some people on the plane have reported that a female passenger was sucked through a window mid-flight, after the engine was damaged.

The woman was rushed to hospital after landing, it has been reported.

One passenger broadcast the landing via Facebook Live.

Southwest said in its statement that 143 passengers and five crewmembers were on board the plane and said it is in the process of transporting customers and crew into the terminal.

“Safety is always our top priority at Southwest Airlines, and we are working diligently to support our Customers and Crews at this time,” the statement said.
