It's an everyday occurence for our minds to wander, and sometimes it doesn't matter how important the activity is or how much concentration it requires - a thought will just pop into our weird brains.
This is no different with the most intimate of activities, sex, and we've probably all had at least one occasion when a completely random - and perhaps unwelcome - thought will enter our brain in the bedroom.
If having thoughts during sex is normal, a recent survey of 2,000 people by sexual wellness brand Lovehoney has revealed exactly what the most common thoughts are.
Amongst the findings, they found that, remarkably, over a quarter (27%) of British men think about their favourite sports team.
In addition to that, almost 2 in 5 (38%) think about another person other than their partner during sex. Even if sex is enjoyable, survey also found out more than half of Brits (53%) are wondering how much longer the sex is going to last.
The research found that the most common thought during sex was simply people wondering how good the sex is.
And in second place, it was thinking about 'things you want your partner to do that they don't already.'
Discussing the findings, Ness Cooper, clinical sexologist, says: “Our minds generally have a lot going on in them at one time, and it’s not always realistic to expect our thoughts to be completely focused on just one thing at a time, even if it’s something we’re actively engaging in.
"Various cues and stimulations from our environment and interactions with the person we are with can trigger certain thoughts or even memories. Intrusive thoughts can occur normally, and aren’t always negative, even if they can be distracting.
"It’s when they cause distress that it can become a problem for some individuals.
“However, we shouldn’t automatically presume intrusive thoughts are bad or distressing. Sometimes they can just be thoughts that occur at the wrong moment simply because that’s how our brains work.”
