Old people throw boiler party rave in retirement home

Now that’s what I call a party

A group of retirement home residents have left the internet feeling deeply jealous as they threw themselves a boiler party.

The old folks living at The De Liberteyt Nursing Home in Wondelgem, Belgium switched up their normal activities for something a little more on the raving side.

One of the attendees, Myriam, admitted that she loved their boiler room party so much that she would definitely do it again.

“I now have a broken foot, so it will be dancing from a chair,” she joked to Het Nieuwsblad. But I would definitely do it again. It’s great that it’s being talked about so much.”

Residents made their own boiler room after music therapist Sielke Defloo created a track of sounds from the care home along with her friend Jeroen Truijens.

“Unbelievable, we never expected this,” Defloo said of the project. “We conducted interviews with residents about their nightlife and extracted samples.

“The sounds were also recorded in the residential care centre. The beat is composed of Myriam tapping on her seat and someone else putting down his walker.”

“We’ve been receiving messages all weekend as if we had already seen that it went viral,” she added. “We are a bit overtaken by reality, because we still plan to release the full song and put it on Spotify.”

The video of the event went properly viral after UK-based record company Defected Records shared a clip of De Liberteyt’s residents raving away. It quickly amassed thousands of views, and people took to the comments section to express their envy at the looks of the party.

“Yasss this is where I will need to be!!! I don’t want bowls or a singalong!!! I want a rave up n toones when I hit the home,” one person wrote.

“That’s what I aspire to be like in my old age,” another penned.

“That’s gonna be me still playing music to my friends at the nursing home,” a third joked.

The De Liberteyt Nursing Home’s official Facebook account even commented: “The residents of nursing home The Liberteyt are so excited that their video goes viral (thanks to Sielke Defloo & Jeroen Truyens). Your positive responses give great pleasure. Thanks!

“We believe in the power of growing older. Challeging projects keeps us young! We are involved in dance, music, street art, fashion (with our own fashion collection by the way)… Always welcome in our ‘stoofkot’ (boilerroom of the nursing home). Greetings from Belgium.”
