Police have confirmed that an officer has been shot in Nottingham city centre.
According to Nottinghamshire Police, a man and woman have fled the scene while a firearm has been recovered.
The two suspects have not been found yet, police said.
They were approached by the officer in Angel Row shortly before the incident, Nottinghamshire Police said.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, at 4.50am, it has been revealed.
According to police, the officer is now being treated in hospital for a wound to his foot.
A large police scene remains in place at Angel Row which is currently closed.
“This is a shocking incident and a sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers as they work to protect and serve the public”, Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas said.
“As we investigate what happened and work to apprehend the individuals involved, my thoughts today are with the injured officer, his family and colleagues.
“I also ask that anyone with additional information shares this with us without delay. Even the smallest bit of information could make all the difference to this investigation.”
