Nickelodeon star Jan Schwieterman dies aged 52

The actor passed away after a short battle with cancer.

Star of one of Nickelodeon’s earliest films, Jan Patrick ‘J.P.’ Schwieterman has died aged 52.

The actor played villain Kurt Bozwell in Nickelodeon’s 1997 comedy Good Burger.

The 52-year-old passed away last month in a hospital in Missouri following a short battle with cancer.

Chad Schwieterman confirmed his brother’s death in a Facebook post, writing: “It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman.

“He recently found out he had an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer.

“Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time. Rest in peace, brother. We love you and miss you,”the post stated.

Prior to Good Burger, Schwieterman had secured small screen roles in shows like McKenna, ER and Forever.

He landed the main antagonist role of Kurt Bozwell, the owner of a rival fast-food restaurant, in Good Burge’, starring opposite Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell.

Sinbad and Shaquille O’Neal also featured in the film.

Schwieterman went on to act as a guest star in Felicity and a handful of other projects before going on a seven-year hiatus from the industry.

His last film credit was in the 2008 indie film Along the Way’.

He did not reprise his role in the 2023 Good Burger sequel.

Schwieterman is survived by his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins.
