MPs’ plan to trigger second Brexit referendum to avoid “stitch-up” gathers pace

Throughout the last few months, we've been repeatedly told that "Brexit means Brexit" without anyone telling us what that second Brexit actually means.

We've also been told that Brexit means breakfast, and now it seems that, whatever Brexit means, it's not actually Brexit. Still following? According to the Daily Telegraph, Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron has been joined by a upwards of 80 MPs from various parties, all of whom are keen for there to be a second referendum relating to the British public's vote to leave the European Union. However, rather than run another vote with the same question as that posed in June, the MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale wants the focus to be the terms of a European exit. And one Lib Dem source is quoted by the paper as saying: "There will be two options – you accept the deal as it is or you vote to remain."

"We want to respect the will of the people and that means they must have their say in a referendum on the terms of the deal," Farron told the BBC's 'Today' programme.

"It's the only logical and the only democratic option on the table. "There will be a referendum at the end of this process so that nobody would have imposed upon them something they didn't vote for. "We believe what started with democracy last June, which we totally respect, must not now end up with a stitch-up, with a deal being imposed on the British people that absolutely nobody voted for."
