More than 70 people have been evacuated following the discovery of explosive chemicals on a British seafront.
Police have arrested a 28-year-old on suspicion of producing the illegal substances and making an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose.
Police however do not believe the incident to be terror-related nor is it connected to drug production.
The incident took place on the seafront in St Leonards, East Sussex.
Despite happening on Thursday it is still ongoing.
In an update shared in the last hour, Sussex Police wrote: "We have carried out a controlled burn this morning on chemicals found in a St Leonards property.
"Searches by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team are continuing this morning for any other hazardous materials in the house, to ensure it is clear of explosive material and the area is safe.
"The cordon remains in place at this time, but we are working to bring this to a conclusion as swiftly as possible.
"Around 500 additional canisters have also been found containing unknown chemicals, although these are not considered to be explosive."
They continued: "They will be tested and assessed by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and national specialists following the completion of the EOD’s search.
"Investigations are ongoing however, from evidence gathered so far, there is no indication that the 28-year-old man arrested intended to cause harm either to himself of anybody else. He has been detained under the Mental Health Act while enquiries continue.
"We would once again like to thank the public for their support and patience."
The Hastings half marathon was due to take place on Sunday however the certainty of it going ahead is now unknown.
Event organisers are believed to issue a statement soon.
