Millions urged to check bank accounts as DWP confirms payment change today

People who claim benefits from the DWP and HMRC, such as Universal Credit and Child Benefit, will have to adjust as it was confirmed their payments will be received on a different day to usual this month.

This is due to the upcoming bank holiday.

Those claiming benefits may be impacted from Monday, 25 May due to it being a bank holiday date across the UK.

People who would normally receive benefits on this date will get theirs on 22 May instead.

This is because the DWP and HMRC do not pay out benefit payments on bank holidays, meaning they get moved to the previous working day.

This was seen earlier this month when payments were moved from Monday, 4 may to Friday, 1 May.

In a post on X, the department said: "Information for claimants already receiving payments: If you are due to be paid on 25 May, you will be paid on 22 May. Please contact us straight away if there is a problem with your payment."

Not everyone will be affected by the bank holiday, with the change only being made depending on your regular payment date.

You can figure this out by counting four weeks forwards from your last payment date and seeing if it lands on a bank holiday.

This won't change the amount of money paid in.
