Michael Nyqvist, star of John Wick and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has died aged 56

Michael Nyqvist was just 56 years old.

Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist, who starred in films such as John Wick, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and the Swedish adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy novels, including The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has died aged 56. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nyqvist’s representative confirmed the sad news in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that he passed away surrounded by his family after a battle with lung cancer. "It is with deep sadness that I can confirm that our beloved Michael, one of Sweden’s most respected and accomplished actors, has passed away quietly surrounded by family after a year-long battle with lung cancer,” the statement read.

"Michael’s joy and passion were infectious to those who knew and loved him. His charm and charisma were undeniable, and his love for the arts was felt by all who had the pleasure of working with him."

Nyqvist is survived by his wife Catharina and his two children, Ellen and Arthur.
