Mexico responds to Trump’s tweet calling their country “the second deadliest in the world”

Mexico are not super happy with Trump right now…

In the same 24 hour window that he almost turned his border wall into something… if not exactly a good idea, then definitely facing in the direction where good ideas come from… when he announced that he planned on making the U.S.-Mexico wall out of solar panels.

According to ABC News, Trump stated: “We’re thinking about building the wall as a solar wall so it creates energy and pays for itself. And this way, Mexico will have to pay much less money. And that’s good, right?”

Bringing up who is paying the bill before you’ve even got to the restaurant isn’t good manners, but we can overlook that, but we imagine the Mexican government had a pretty hard time overlooking Trump’s late night tweet last night:

Apparently, Trump is responding to a report released in May by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, which stated that Mexico has 23,000 homicides reported in 2016, the second highest death toll in countries considered to be armed conflict, after Syria.

The Mexican Foreign and Interior ministries had responded to this report, claiming that the existence of organised criminal violence was not sufficient to earn the categorisation of “currently in armed conflict”, while the most recent United Nations statistics stated that Mexico’s rate of 16.4 homicides per 100,000 residents was significantly lower than those of several other Latin American countries that were not ranked in the report.

Trump didn’t hover over the issue for too long though, as 25 minutes later he’d moved on to something else…

Oh well. Easy come, easy go…
