The former reality TV star and ex-Olympian Caitlyn Jenner received a huge backlash online after she made controversial comments about transgender girls competing in women's sport in schools.

When pressed by TMZ on the matter, Jenner said: "This is a question of fairness, that's why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls' sports in school.

"It just isn't fair and we have to protect girls' sports in our schools," Jenner added.

Rapinoe, who is passionate about LGBT issues and is an advocate for equal pay for women, claimed that sports have been used as "another avenue to attack" trans people's rights.

The 35-year-old has slammed Jenner, who is running for Governor of LA, for her comments made about trans women in sport.

The professional soccer player told Fubo Sports Network's 'The Cooligans' during an interview: "You were an exceptional athlete. You're not an exceptional politician."

Jenner announced last month that she has filed the necessary paperwork to run for the Governor of California.

The former reality TV star said: "Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision

"Californians want better and deserve better from their governor. For too long, career politicians have over-promised and under-delivered," she added.

Appearing on Fox News earlier this month, Jenner said that she stuck by her comments made about trans girls in women's sports.

She said: "I stick with my statements that I made...I think we have to make sure that the integrity of girls’ sports is there. I think that’s extremely important.

"But there’s more to it than just what I said, because I just said ‘biological boys in sports’ – there’s more to it than that, and I think in the future I will explain more of that."

This comes after Jenner came under scrutiny recently for playing golf in a women's league.

The former Olympian was widely criticised on social media following the revelation.
