Maccies is also trialling a range of Saver Meals though

McDonald’s is raising the price of five menu items from today, as a result of soaring inflation and costs in the UK.

The fast food chain, which has more than 1,200 restaurants in the UK, said it had been hit with rising food and energy prices “like many other businesses”.

The items that are going up in price are:

  • Mayo Chicken, which will rise by 20 percent from 99p to £1.19
  • Bacon Mayo Chicken, a 12.6 percent rise from £1.59 to £1.79
  • Bacon Double Cheeseburger, and eight percent rise from £2.49 to £2.69
  • Triple Cheeseburger, a 7.4 percent rise from £2.69 to £2.89
  • Medium Fizzy Drink, a 7.1 percent rise from £1.39 to £1.49

These prices may not be implemented at all restaurants though as some branches as some are operated by franchisees.

McDonald’s can recommend how its franchises set their prices, but can’t order them to introduce increases, so prices can vary across restaurants.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s told JOE: “We are committed to offering great tasting food at affordable prices. However, like many businesses, the impact of the increase in food and energy costs continues to affect our company and our franchisees.

“We carefully review and adjust pricing to offer great value and quality. At the same time, we continue to work hard on how we can provide our customers value where it matters most, with personalised offers and rewards through the MyMcDonald’s Rewards scheme.”

Alongside the price hikes today though, McDonald’s also announced it was trialling a new range of saver meals in 120 of its stores in south east England over the next 12 weeks.

Launched today, the Saver Meal will see the Cheeseburger, Mayo Chicken or Double Cheeseburger available with a side and a drink.

The Cheeseburger and Mayo Chicken Saver Meals will be priced at £3.99, with the Double Cheeseburger at £4.79.

The fast food chain said the pilot was being launched “to understand if this could be an additional way to offer value to our customers.”

It will run until May 9, and if proven to be popular McDonald’s will consider rolling out the new saver menu nationwide.

Last July, Maccies raised the price of its single cheeseburger for the first time in 14 years.

The burger was increased from 99p to £1.19, with other menu items also being hiked by between 10p and 20p.
