Mark Zuckerberg announces major Facebook change

James Dawson

People have been requesting to see this for some time.

Mark Zuckerberg has announced a major change to Facebook, writing that the News Feed has become ‘crowded out/ by posts from ‘businesses, brands and media’.

The Facebook CEO added that he wants using Facebook to be good for users’ ‘well-being’ and bring us ‘closer together with the people that matter’.

In practice this will likely mean that you will soon be seeing less posts from media organisation and brands as you scroll through your phone.

He wrote: “Since there’s more public content than posts from your friends and family, the balance of what’s in News Feed has shifted away from the most important thing Facebook can do – help us connect with each other.”

Zuckerberg said that he believed the changes may mean people spend less time on the site.

“But I also expect the time you do spend on Facebook will be more valuable,” he wrote

“And if we do the right thing, I believe that will be good for our community and our business over the long term too.”

The changes will come into effect over the coming weeks and follows his announcement last year that he was going to ‘fix Facebook in 2018’.
