The Jet2 flight from Leeds to Alicante was forced to divert to Nantes

A British man forced a plane to perform an emergency landing after he put his hand up a flight attendant’s skirt mid-journey.

The Jet2 flight from Leeds to Alicante diverted to the French city of Nantes after a “seriously drunk” 66-year-old passenger carried out the sexual assault on Saturday morning.

The unnamed pensioner has admitted putting his hand under the skirt of the air attendant and touching her intimate parts while she was handing out refreshments.

He was arrested by French border police after the aircraft’s captain ordered the emergency landing over the northwest tip of the country.

The man has now been released under judicial control and must now appear in court for the trial on December 13th.

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: “We can confirm that flight LS271 from Leeds Bradford to Alicante diverted to Nantes Airport on Saturday 12th November, so that a disruptive passenger could be offloaded.

“We would like to apologise to customers for this unforeseen delay and any inconvenience caused. The safety and well-being of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority and, as a family friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour.

“We are investigating the incident with the relevant authorities, and will not hesitate to take action to vigorously recover any losses we incurred as a result of this appalling behaviour.”
