The alleged threat was made the day after May's local elections.

A man has been arrested over a social media post telling Nigel Farage: “I am going to shoot you in the head if you win.”

Police arrested the man in London on Tuesday (July 14) on suspicion of sending a threatening communication. He was interviewed before being released on bail pending further inquiries.

The alleged threat was posted on X on May 8, the day after the local and mayoral elections, the Telegraph reports.

The suspect’s arrest comes in the wake of Ann Widdecombe’s death in a “targeted attack” at her home last week.

Since Widdecombe’s death, Farage has been critical of what he claims to be a lack of protection from the state.

Speaking to the Telegraph following the man’s arrest, the Reform leader said: “This is the first time the police have ever proactively acted on a social media post and I hope they are looking at the other three or four hundred similar posts from this year alone.”

Farage has previously described himself as the “most attacked politician in the country.”
