Macklemore’s ‘Free Palestine Tour’ date in Dublin sells out in just five minutes

Dublin fans had minutes to grab Macklemore tickets

The 3Arena gig, set for 26 October, was announced last week alongside dates in Paris and London.

But anyone hoping to grab a ticket had to move quickly, with fans online saying the Dublin show was sold out within “5 minutes” of going on sale.

Some fans even reported joining the queue as early as 10am, only to reach the front and find there were no tickets left.

There had already been two presales this week, including one for people who signed up through Macklemore’s website and another via the Three+ app, before the general demand sent tickets disappearing.

Macklemore wants musicians to use their platforms for more

When Macklemore announced the tour, he also explained what had motivated him to take the message around the world.

The rapper said he had noticed what he described as a “collective awakening around Palestinian liberation, the power of billionaires that try to censor that call, and what we expect from artists right now”.

He argued that artists could no longer simply stay out of political issues, writing: “Being apolitical during a genocide doesn’t work anymore.”

According to Macklemore, audiences are now asking musicians to “show up, educate themselves and be in community”, while using their platforms for more than entertainment.

He said that meant being willing “to use the stage for more than entertainment” and “to push back when the call for a Free Palestine is met with attempts to silence it”.

The rapper also appeared to make light of his recent exit from Ed Sheeran’s US tour, joking that his “schedule freed up a bit”.

He said he had used the extra time to contact other artists who had spoken out in support of Palestinians and continued to use their platforms “regardless of the consequences”.
