Julia Wendell recently took a DNA test after claiming she was Madeleine McCann

Kate and Gerry McCann have spoken for the first time since a Polish woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann received her DNA results.

Julia Wendell, 21, made headlines around the world after she claimed that she may be Madeleine, who went missing during a family holiday to Portugal in 2007.

Wendell said that she was unable to remember large parts of her childhood and that she was unsure of her age after claiming she hadn’t seen her own birth certificate.

However after failing to provide any sufficient evidence, which led to her own parents saying that “it’s obvious she isn’t’ the missing British girl,” Wendell travelled to the US to appear on Dr Phil and make her claim.

DNA results though proved that she wasn’t McCann and that she was from Poland with some Romanian and Lithuanian heritage.

After the results were revealed, Kate and Gerry were asked to provide a response via the official Find Madeleine Facebook page.

A brief statement from the parents said: “There isn’t anything to report at this time. If and when there is, it will come from The Metropolitan Police.”

Dr Fia Johansson, a private and investigator and psychiatrist helping Wendell with the case, said that the 21-year-old “truly believed what she was saying” and that the “story is much more complicated than a simple girl from a small town in Poland making a claim to get attention.”

Johansson, who helped relocate Wendell to the US after she received death threats, claimed that she has since moved back to Poland to live with her father although this hasn’t been confirmed by her family.
