‘He was the loveliest man I have ever seen in my life’ the manager of the Bridge Tavern said
Staff at the pub where Johnny Depp was seen celebrating his defamation case result with musicians Sam Fender and Jeff Beck have revealed what the actor said in the aftermath of the victory.
The Pirates of the Carribean star was on Wednesday awarded $15m in damages, made up of $10m in compensatory damages and $5m in punitive damages – though the damages sum was later reduced to $350,000 – after a jury found that his ex-wife, Amber Heard had defamed him. Heard, a jury in Fairfax, Virginia, found was also defamed, and was awarded $2m, but she has already announced plans to appeal.
On Wednesday night Depp was photographed at the Bridge Tavern in Newcastle, sinking pints with the ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ singer.

The pub’s manager, Janine Latchford, told Chronicle Live that Depp was -low-key when he came in with friends, “but he was quite cool”.
“He didn’t want anyone to see who he was,” she told the publication.
“We gave him a private space and he was the loveliest man I have ever seen in my life. My assistant is heavily pregnant and he was telling her how beautiful being a parent was. He was really down to earth, he was lovely.”
Latchford went on to say Depp was “incredible” and had embraced her.
“He gave me a hug and I told him that I loved him pretty much as soon as I saw him! He loved the artwork and he was asking questions about the Tyne Bridge. He said he’d never been to Newcastle before.”
The 33-year-old added that Depp was having fish and chips, saying the “food was amazing”.
Latchford said Fender then joined the party: “I don’t think Sam had met Johnny before. Johnny is doing a show tomorrow at The Sage. Whoever he was with must have known Sam Fender so they arranged to meet. Sam Fender came about half an hour later when the terrace was closed off.
“It was unbelievable for the pub, I have never seen anything like it before.
“It has been the most surreal day of my life without doubt! It’s insane.”
