ITV chef and food writer Parveen Ashraf has revealed that her husband of 38 years was killed during a robbery.

Ashraf, known as Parveen the Spice Queen, had a ten-part series on ITV called Parveen's Indian Kitchen and has appeared on James Martin's Saturday Morning.

Her husband of 38 years, Ashraf Qamar Parvez, 68, died in Ghana in December last year.

Now, Ashraf has revealed the real story behind what happened to her husband.

Posting a video to her 30k followers on Instagram, she started by sharing that she was thinking about returning to work after taking time out.

She said: "Hi everyone, it is Parveen the Spice Queen – but I am not even sure if I am still her. I just wanted to come on here as I've been away for a while but I wanted to come and say that I think I am ready to come back to work.

"But I am not even sure what that means yet. I had a personal tragedy and I lost my husband about six months ago."

She continued by saying that she knew those that had also suffered grief would understand how "painful" her experience was but that her husband "wouldn't want me to wallow in self-pity".

Speaking directly to her husband, Ashraf said: "Rest in peace my darling."

She went on to add that Parvez was "taken from us tragically and suddenly".

She continued: "He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and was killed during a robbery in Ghana."

Parvez had been living in Ghana at the time.

Ashraf wrote in the caption: "I finally got the courage to film and post this little video.

"The pain of losing someone you love is all consuming and it’s easy to just let the grief take over, however for the sake of my own sanity, I am hoping to get back to work soon. This reel was the first step."

Ashraf said she was "pleasantly surprised" by the support she had received after returning to social media.

As well as having her ITV show, she has also authored two cookbooks, 'Parveen’s Family Favourites' and 'Parveen the Spice Queen', as per her website.
