In Norway it's been raining earthworms. Really. Thousands of the wriggly creatures were found alive on top of deep snow - prompting authorities to investigate. Turns out it had actually been raining worms from the sky. The bizarre phenomenon is rare, but it has happened in the past. The BBC report that a football match in Scotland because it was chucking it down with the slimy soil-dwellers. Scientists believe it happens when earthworms emerge from the ground after a storm and are swept off by the wind and carried up by warm air thermals before the 'fall as rain'.
