Inflation pushes average cost of filling Panini 2022 World Cup sticker album to almost £1k

Fans of the official Panini Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 album will be shocked to learn that collecting the entire sticker range will set them back nearly £1k. The cost of living crisis is in full swing and has affected everything from energy prices to the cost of everyday items in the shop. Panini has priced its 2022 Qatar five-sticker packs at 90p each, which is a 12.5 per cent increase on the 80p cost of the Russian 2018 album. Back in 2016, for the Euros, sticker packs cost just 50p. The collection went on sale on August 25, and there are currently 670 stickers to collect. According to mathematic professor Paul Harper, duplicates mean that fans would need to buy roughly 4,832 stickers to complete their collection. "The first sticker you buy is absolutely guaranteed not to be a duplicate," he said in his research first posted in 2018. "The second sticker you get has a 681/682 (99.85%) chance of being a new sticker. The third sticker you get has a 680/682 (99.7%) chance of being a new sticker, and so on." Chris Clover, the managing director of Panini UK and Ireland, told the Guardian: "The publishing phenomenon that is the Panini Fifa World Cup sticker collection reaches its 14th edition and anticipation across the globe is huge.
