Greggs is bringing back its sausage bean and cheese melt

Charlie Herbert

Suddenly January feels much less bleak

The wait is over people – it’s back.

Yes, Greggs’ much-loved sausage bean and cheese melt has returned to shelves.

The famous pastry was removed from stores in the autumn and the bakery had told customers that it was “working round the clock” to get it back.

Well, the day is finally here, after a fair amount of teasing its return on social media.

In a not-so-cryptic Instagram post, the company hinted at the return of the iconic snack.

Captioned ‘the comeback you’ve bean waiting for… 2 days to go’, the blurred picture looked suspiciously like it could feature beans.

And look at that spelling of ‘bean’. Either someone at Greggs needed to brush up on their grammar or the sausagey beany cheesy combo was returning.

People were clearly excited for it as well, with the post racking up more than 3,300 likes and plenty of comments.

“Thank the lord,” one person commented on the post.

“You have no idea how happy this makes me,” another said.

Even Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall commented, warning the bakery that she would “kick off hun” if it wasn’t the sausage bean cheese melt.

Online the brand describe the melt as: “Bursting with delectable baked beans, our sausage meatballs, and gloriously gooey melted cheese, we can just about guarantee that our Sausage Bean and Cheese Melt will tickle your tastebuds.”

They add: “There’s one thing that nobody can deny, and it’s that sausages, beans and cheese are a match made in pastry heaven.”

So that’s lunch sorted then.

Fingers crossed the vegan version will be making a comeback as well.
