Maxwell is currently in 'arguably the worst detention centre in America'
Disgraced socialite Ghislaine Maxwell is reportedly to be placed on suicide watch at the New York jail in which she is imprisoned.
Maxwell was found guilty of recruiting and trafficking teenage girls to be abused by financier Jeffrey Epstein.
According to Metro, The Bureau of Prisons placed her on suicide watch following her arrest in July 2020.
While she was convicted of five of the six charges in her trial in December, she is also facing a separate trial for perjury.
A date for sentencing has yet to be given but it is thought the sentence could be as long as 65 years.
Maxwell is currently being held in the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, which prison consultant Justin Paperny told The Times is a huge improvement on her previous cell.
He said, "Her case is different because she's already endured so much time in custody. She's been in this wretched, dank, cold, filthy detention centre in Brooklyn which has really conditioned her for confinement... she will actually feel like she's in Disneyland compared to where she is now."
While Maxwell was found guilty on five of the six charges, she was acquitted on the charge of 'enticement of an individual under the age of 17 to travel with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity'.
